The history of printmaking in China dates back to woodcut stamps from 250 BC. Today, more than two thousand years later, China is the global leader in printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing with more than 40% of global production in the Shenzhen area. Most people think of PCBs as functional electronic devices instead of beautiful works of art, but they can be both! Artistic circuits that merge technological skill, craftsmanship, and printmaking are the perfect symbol of Shenzhen’s cultural heritage.
On January 4th, we will invite Kelly Heaton, Adjunct Professor of Electronic Art at New York University and also a cross-disciplinary artist, engineer, and visionary who works with electricity, to share her views and projects at Chaihuo Makerspace. Come explore the exciting potential of circuit board printmaking with electronic artist Kelly Heaton!
Schedule as follows:
19:30 - 20:15 Sharing|PCB Art, or The Art of Circuit Board Printmaking
20:15 - 21:00 Free Discussion and Q&A
Kelly Heaton
Kelly Bowman Heaton (凯利·鲍曼·希顿) is an inventor, designer, engineer, entrepreneur, professor, and pioneer of electronic art. She is known for her beautiful, spiritual circuits and her sculptural birds that “sing” with only analog electronic hardware. Heaton is fascinated by printed circuit boards (PCBs) as a new artistic medium and collaborates with manufacturers in Shenzhen to produce her works of art. Heaton is an Adjunct Professor at New York University Tandon School of Engineering. She is a graduate of Yale University with a Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Kelly's talk will be interesting for people who are:
— patrons who wish to establish Shenzhen as a global leader in art and technology
— electrical engineers who wish to collaborate with an artist
— PCB manufacturers
— printmakers
— technical illustrators
— anyone who seeks inspiration for their circuit designs
